Mission Statement
On April 25, 2006 our charitable foundation, SCOA Cares, received tax exempt status from the Internal Revenue Service as a 501 (c) (3) organization.
Our Mission:
The foundation will raise funds and accept gifts for charitable, educational and scientific purposes. Specifically it will support cancer research, provide patient support services and offer community cancer educational classes and workshops for the citizens of Columbia, South Carolina and its surrounding communities.
For over 20 years South Carolina Oncology Associates (SCOA) has been a leader in cancer treatment and patient care so with the approval of the SCOA Cares Foundation its expansion is eminent. SCOA Cares has a modest budget that allows us to provide patients with financial assistance for pharmaceuticals for our uninsured patients and those not covered by insurance, we have provided funds for some specialty garments used to control lymphdema, provide CT Scans for the uninsured and we are offering assistance with COBRA insurance payments for those who qualify.
We are also working with two local companies, Checker Yellow and Carter Transportation Services, to make sure the patients without a means of transportation can still get to and from the clinic for treatment and follow-up appointments.
The foundation has been chosen as the recipient of many local fundraisers like Jessica McCain’s “Fight like a Girl Night”, Carolina Ale House’s “ Brewfest” Halloween fund raiser, Kick’s Lemonade Stand, Kaminer Heating and Air golf Benefit, Dirty South Rider’s annual Motorcycle ride for Breast Cancer, Lake Murray Marathon, Clear Channel’s “Little Black Dress” parties, Sparkleberry County Fair org., Hats Off, and many others. We have done our own Charity Golf Tournament for the past ten years.
Like the Physicians and staff of SCOA, the SCOA Cares board members who volunteer their time for this foundation and all of its efforts are committed to providing support and assistance to all the cancer patients of South Carolina Oncology Associates and our beautiful state. Please contact me if you are interested in volunteering or donating to this worthwhile cause.
